The August Juicebox, revealed.
The first of the month means one thing here at Brixton Wine Club. One thing, only.
It’s all change! Those who have been subscribers for a while will know the drill but for the newbies here, let me explain. Each month the contents of the boxes are changed. Your favourite box, the Juice Box, is the only one which completely changes each time. So without further a-do, let’s see what I’ve chosen for you to try this month.
Starting things off, we’ve got the gorgeously smooth Cataratto from Vinca. It’s a grape that is synonymous with winemaking in Sicily so perhaps un-surprisingly, I had never tried this variety before. It’ll catapult you straight to the island. It’s full of citrus fruits, peach and honey aromas; a real summertime wine. Pair with antipasti or lightly grilled fish to compliment the flavours.
Speaking of fish, next up we’ve got Ocean, a white Muscadet from the Loire Valley in France. The can itself is covered in a shoal of fish which nods towards the salinity you get in this wine. Heard the term Melon de Bourgogne? This is it! A firm favourite for pairing with seafood due to the high acidity in this wine.
Bringing some fizz to the party this month is LDN SPRITZ. A lightly sparkling blend of Kentish and Essex-grown grapes with a slightly lower alcohol content. The result is a fruity and zingy wine spritzer with hints of peach, pear and elderflower.
It wouldn’t be summertime without a rosé wine and for August, this Southern Rhône is perfect. It’s a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah which balances fruit, spice and a dry finish. The design on the can reflects the local floral and fauna of the area, including lavender and herbs.
Onto the reds for the month. Enter the West + Wilder Pinot Noir from Sonoma County, USA. It’s actually one of the first American canned wines that we’ve stocked! This one is a real treat - full of strawberry, raspberry and cherry flavours. Drink this alongside a summer charcuterie board.
Finally, we have an Italian Merlot from When In Rome. A light and smooth unoaked merlot grown in North Eastern Italy that was made with pizza in mind. Saluti!
