12 of the best glasses for swirling your wine
Wine glasses. There are so many different shapes and sizes to choose from it can be overwhelming. From teeny-tiny ones for sipping fortified wines, to those scary-big ones that hold a full bottle of wine. It seems there is a glass for each and every occasion.
I don’t like to get too caught up in which-glass-is-for-which-wine. For me it’s more about whether it’ll survive being hand-washed in a metal sink. They need to be durable but look good. This is why I love to rummage for glassware antiques - they’ve stood the test of time and are usually quite reasonably priced. Any trip to a charity shop with me will always end with a quick look at the glassware shelves. My rule is if it’s not a full set of 6, it’s a no-go for me. For now, the quest to find the perfect vintage set continues.
This edit of glassware spans across price brackets. One is a particularly affordable £2.50 a pop which is great for those inevitable breakages. Some are more of a splurge and could make perfect gifts for the wine lover in your life.
The stackable everyday wine glasses
This set of 4 stackable glasses from Marks and Spencer has the most satisfying shape. They’re dishwasher safe and wallet-friendly too at just £12 for a set of 4.
If this style of glassware is your vibe, you’ll probably love the ‘Tavern’ glass from HAY. They’re a little shorter and a little pricier but they remind me of the wine glasses you get on holiday and for that reason, they might just be my new favourite.
The glasses with the coloured stems
Striking the perfect balance between minimalist and maximalist. These wine glasses would elevate any tablescape with that pop of yellow for £32 for the pair. They’re by &klevering and I’ve found a similar pair in orange to buy on from Sous Chef.
The bistro-style fluted glasses
These short stemmed glasses are giving me ultra-chic Parisian vibes but without the price tag. They’re an uncostly £8 each from Yod and Co via Glasette.
The tiny vintage inspired glasses
Understated and simple, these glasses could last you a lifetime of wine drinking. (If you don’t break any!) I could see myself enjoying a drop or two or Pinot Noir in these. They’re from La Redoute and are £40 for a set of 6.
The ripple wine glasses
For a while, I kept seeing these all over Instagram but I’ve finally managed to hunt them down. They’re by Ferm Living, a Danish designer and thankfully, they now ship to the UK. They’ll fit a large glass of wine in perfectly for £39 for two and they come in clear or smoked grey.
The affordable, flat-bottomed wine glasses
These designer-looking Champagne flutes are actually the cheapest glass in this whole round-up at £2.50 each from Ikea. If you’re a sucker for a matching set, you can also buy red and white wine glasses. Undoubtedly the most economical way to update your glassware at the moment.
The brightly coloured non-breakable glasses
What can I say? The colour drew me in. But then I realised these are not your usual wine glasses. They’re made from acrylic and therefore are pretty unbreakable, IMO. They’re on back-order until 2024 but god, they’re nice. The set of 4 Lucia wine goblets will set you back £34 and will be perfect for summer picnics.
The wine glass that could be a piece of art
Sitting firmly in the expensive end of the edit, this curved stem wine glass could be confused with an Expressionism art piece. It’s actually from Thirteen-ThirtyOne and will set you back £37.50 for one. Probably not your everyday glass but that wiggly stem though….
The colourful glasses
Now, if you’re wanting to seriously assess the hues of your wines - these are not the glasses for you. However, if you’re looking to inject some colour into your life, get yourself a set asap! These are another find from Anthropologie with the potential to add coupes and flutes to your collection. Four will set you back a fairly affordable £46.
The ones that let the wine breathe
Specially designed with a wave pattern that helps to unlock the aromas of the wine, these glasses by Fazeek are pretty damn desirable. They’re available from END. for £85 a pair.
