The September Juicebox, revealed.
September has come around quickly but we are more than ready for a new month and new wines.
Let’s kick off proceedings with an aperitivo; a Sprezza to be exact. Inspired by 1950’s Italian tradition and made from just four ingredients. This is how to truly spritz. There are floral alpine aromas with lots of herbs, elderflower and chamomile. Finishing on notes of bitter orange, ginger and pink grapefruit. What is in it? Simply Mancino Vermouth Bianco, Scrappy’s Orange Bitters, mineral water and carbonation. Cin Cin!
Sticking with the Italian theme, we have a Greco from When In Rome. This pale lemon coloured white wine is produced in the Taurasi region of the country. On the nose there are plenty of ripe pears, tart green apples and gooseberries. A balanced acidity gets your mouth watering.
Another white wine for you. This time, from the other side of the world and in a very different style. This 100% Chardonnay from Elephant in the Room is bold and upfront. On the palate, there are peaches, guava and melon with subtle, toasty oak aromas. It’s rich and soft with a fresh acidity giving balance to the wine.
The last of the summer wine. This rosé is from Provence in France and selected by a Master of Wine. (So you know it’s going to deliver.) It’s a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah which has an almost orange colour in the glass. This rosé from Bowl Grabber is light, fresh and juicy with hints of exotic fruits.
Onto the reds for the month. We have a red wine from Green Roots. This is an intense ruby-red wine made from a blend of Garnacha and Syrah grape varieties grown in the Spanish hills. It’s deliciously smooth with red fruit and floral aromas. Well-structured, expressive and dry.
Finally, we have a new release from the Copper Crew who specialise in South African wine. Their 2019 Pinotage is made from grapes grown in Stellenbosch and is a classic expression of Pinotage. It has aromas of figs, blackberries and cherries and is an exciting introduction to the pinotage variety if you haven’t tried it before!
